10 Ways to Win Everyday

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Everyone I meet wants something. They want to make a difference, they want to achieve a goal, they want to make a dream a reality, but whatever it may be, the starting point is in your daily agenda.

The road map to success is built on a street called perseverance and it is traveled only by those people who are dedicated to practicing winning habits each day in their life. I want to share with you what I have learned about winning every day.

  1. Get up when you wake up
  2. Believe that today is your day
  3. Read scripture
  4. Listen to a motivating message
  5. Great your family with a smile and a positive word
  6. Have an agenda that you will accomplish
  7. Send out 3 note cards to people you know
  8. Look for 1 way to give something to someone – a smile or encourage word
  9. Expect favor in your activities
  10. Come home with a positive, supportive and grateful attitude

What are some more ways they you have discovered to win every day? Comment below and lets talk :)

What are you thankful for?

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

As I think about the Thanksgiving Holiday, I can’t help but think that we should really be thankful everyday of our life. I don’t believe it takes one day for us to gather and give thanks, rather I believe it should be an attitude that we live out our lives with an attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving everyday.

Today I wanted to share with you my list of things that I am thankful for and I would like to know yours as well.

Would you take a moment to leave a comment on this post with what you are thankful for?

I think that it is important that we write down our goals, our dreams and our thanks. Why? Because there is something powerful in putting our thoughts down on paper or in this case a blog. It cements those thoughts and gives them power in our lives.

So with that being said, here is a list of things I am thankful for…

  • God
  • My wife and family
  • My friends
  • My customers
  • Our freedom in the USA
  • Health
  • My many blessings
  • YOU!

So what are you thankful for? Leave a comment below.

Most people don’t know my background, but once they understand where I came from, they better understand why I like to get stuff done fast and not settle for excuses.

This is me standing in front of the house I grew up in, 720 Conway Place. What is more important is that 720 Conway Place is in the projects. When I tell people that I was raised in the projects, they don’t believe me, so I recently went back to take a picture.

Here are 5 reasons that i shouldn’t have any measure of success in my life, but I do anyway.

  1. My father passed away when I was 3
  2. My mother was on government assistance
  3. I grew up in the projects

So if I had 3 big strikes against me, then why am I not in a beat down, broke, unsuccessful life now? The answer is simple…

“Your situation with either provide you excuses or inspiration, you choose.”

I could have easily said that because I didn’t have a father growing up, I had no direction, but I didn’t. I intentionally sought out mentors in my life back then and still to this day. I could have said that because we were poor, I didn’t have the resources to go to college, but I didn’t. I started working when I was 14 and sought out the information on how to go to college when you don’t have a dime to your name ( that should be the title of a book :) ) I could have got into the wrong crowd growing up in the projects, but I didn’t because I saw that wasn’t the way out.

The point is that you can make excuses or opportunities, it is your choice. Where you are and where you are going has everything to do with

  1. What you are reading
  2. Who you are learning from
  3. Who you are hanging out with
  4. Where you are spending your money
  5. What you are willing to tolerate

And hear is another surprising fact…I wasn’t a model student. I got average grades at best and even worse grades in English yet I have successfully published several books including my new children’s book – Squiggly’s Race to the Ark

How does that happen? Simple, when you have a goal, you find a way!

You are free to make excuses, just don’t expect that successful people will spend much, if any time with you. You have one life, how you spend it is your choice, so choose wisely.

Feel free to leave me a comment, not an excuse below

I am really not a big fan of the news. Every time it is on, they are telling us about some crime, some accident, or some terrible event that is about to befall us at any moment. The world as of late has been nothing short of unbearable if you pay attention to what is being done, being said, and happening.

And now the new story is the downgrade of the US Credit Rating.

The news media has literally blasted fear into the hearts of many Americans. Fear they will lose their home, fear the US is doomed, and fear that the end is near. Quite frankly I am sick and tired of the whole mess. I am tired of fear being installed into people, crippling their ability to believe in a hope and a future. Too many people are hiding from their destiny because they are afraid. I am ready for the people of this great country to get up and take hold of their dreams, but many people simply don’t know how.

I recently spoke at an ACN training event and met a young man named Jim Shannon. Jim has CP. He can not speak. He has no control over any part of his body except for his jaw and chin. He lives his life strapped into a special wheel chair, yet through what many would say are insurmountable odds, he graduated college, holds a full time job as a web developer, and runs his own business with ACN where he is one of the top sales reps in Tennessee.

How does he do all of this? Because Jim has No Excuses!

Here is a plan to take hold of your dream NOW

  1. Get in a great church, read your Bible and Pray
  2. Get a firm hold of your dream
  3. Write down what you want to happen – be clear and specific
  4. Focus on the opportunities that are right in front of you
  5. Grab hold of any positive message and listen to them when you are in your car
  6. Get out and connect with like minded people
  7. Eliminate ALL sources of negativity from your life
  8. Step out and face your giant knowing full well you have all the power you need to win
  9. Stop asking “Why” questions and start asking “How Can I” questions

But most important is #10

DECIDE! Decide that your future is bright. Decide that you dream is real. Decide that not matter what the odds, no matter what people say, no matter how difficult the price you need to pay, that YOU and YOU alone are in charge of your life.

Whatever your dream is, you were not given that dream in order for it to become a nightmare. Life is short, you only get one shot and you need to go after it with all that you have!

Stop making excuses. Stop letting some news anchor or politician tell you how it is going to be and start listening to people who bring encouragement, hope, and common sense into your life because whether you are involved or not, life goes on – take your shot while you still have time.

So I am driving Angie to the Mac store yesterday to get her a hot pink case for her new Mac Book Pro. (A girl has got to look good) Plus it will match the colors for her blog SlimDownDiva.com. Anyway, as many of you know I am a big fan of 80′s music, so anytime we are in the Diva’s car, I get to listen to Sirius Satellite radio’s all 80′s on 8.

I am positive that you have a dream, desire, or goal that you have yet to achieve. For many people that dream lays dormant. No action has taken place to move it from thoughts to reality. I have spoken to numerous people who have achieved their dreams and here is the #1 thing they have all said Read More→

Would you pick 10 race horses or 200 mules?

Friday, May 20th, 2011

I got to have coffee with a new prospective client today. He had recently came to one of my speaking events and had left with my 7 Fundamentals of Top Producers audio. He called me recently to have coffee because he had been listening to the CD several times. (By the way, that is one of the fundamentals, how often do you listen to information that makes you better?)

Anyway, as we talked he said he had about 110 sales reps that he wanted to get involved in a sales training program and here are the question he asked me…

  1. What can you do to motivate the sales team?
  2. What can be done to move them to another level?
  3. What is the cost?

And here are my answers…

  1. Nothing. Motivation is up to the individual. I may be able to get them excited for a brief time, but they must be self motivated and have a desire to go to the next level. If your team lacks motivation, maybe you have the wrong team.
  2. Accountability. People have potential but they need someone to ask them the tough questions that produce results. Sales managers typically dance around difficult questions because they don’t want to lose the sales staff, but you only lose the ones who have no desire to step up their game. People who have a strong desire to win will be challenged by difficult questions and thrive when a leader has the courage to ask them.
  3. Does it really matter? I think a better question is what is my investment. Leaders, Producers, and winners never look at the cost, they look at the investment. When they learn what the investment is, they assess the return and immediately take action.

But then I gave him some valuable information and I asked him the most important question…

“How much is it worth for you to find out who you winners are on the team and who needs to move on?”

I would rather have 10 race horses working with me than 200 mules. Just a thought…

3 Questions to Keep You Focused on Your Main Goal

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

We live in a world of distractions. It is so easy to get “caught up” by shiny new objects that take our eye off the goal. I meet great people, with incredible talents who can really make a difference IF they can remain focused.

Opportunities are everywhere, but not every opportunity is right for you.

The question becomes… “How do you keep from getting distracted and stay focused on your goal?”

Here are 3 questions to ask yourself to make sure you are not getting distracted.

  1. Does this opportunity line up with my goal?
  2. How long will it take me to implement?
  3. Will it take me closer to my goal?

If you answer YES to all three, then go for it. If you are hesitant about any of these, decide quickly before going any further. Staying focused is a critical key to your success.

Until we meet again…

Keep Marketing, Keep Selling, and Keep Being Your Best!
