How to Get, Keep, and Stay Motivated

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Motivation is a funny, complex thing. The thing that motivates one person is always different from that of another even though they are working for the same thing. And while people can motivate other people, they can only do so to a certain degree. At the end of the day, you still have to work out a way to get yourself moving. But when everything looks bleak and all you want to do is to surrender, from where do you muster the will to go on?

Begin with winning the battle in your head.

The battle always starts in the head. One part of your brain tells you to move, work, and strive for what you are working for. The other part tells you that it is foolish. It is always easier to listen to the latter, because it is more convenient, less taxing, and easier to do. The former forces you to act and work. All things equal, people always choose the less inconvenient, easy way out. But this isn’t always the better choice. In fact, it is never a good choice.

What separates very effective people from those who are not is their ability to always make the right choices most of the time, even if these choices are the hardest to make. They know how the game works and they try to beat it every single time. Exhausting, yes, but it is also gratifying. There is always a sense of satisfaction in defeating your worst enemy- yourself.

But how do you win the battle that goes on inside your head?

Understand your thoughts and how they affect your emotions and your will power. Negative thoughts can easily kill your sense of purpose. It comes in many forms

  • lack of self-confidence
  • general negativity
  • lack of belief in others
  • procrastination and the list goes on.

Each of these has the power to convince you to throw in the towel and accept that you can’t carry on. Identifying each of your negative thoughts is the first step to winning yourself back from a defeatist attitude.

It is not simple feat, though. It takes time before one can shut out the voice in the head that says ‘give up, give in’. And sometimes, even when you have already succeeded in neutralizing your negative thoughts, it is still easy to give up at the first sign of a speed bump. After all, it gives you time to rest from the unending struggle to achieve whatever it is you are pursuing, even for just a moment. But donít buy that. That short period of rest can turn to days, weeks, months, years, ultimately paralyzing you from taking action and living a full life. That’s the characteristic of discouragement. It offers you immediate gratification without securing anything in return.

Try to gain positive momentum every time, instead of succumbing back into a demoralized attitude. Every time, even if that means you have to start the battle in your head all over again.

Have a great week! Keep Marketing and Keep Selling!

3 Simple Steps to More Abundance in Your Life

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

As I work with more and more business owners, I am more aware of some simple rules that those who are very successful practice versus those who struggle. After all everyone is granted the same 24 hours in a day. Everyone is faced with the same economy. Everyone has the same ability to make choices…

Ah ha, that’s it! It s the choices we make that have lead us to where we are right now. If we need different out comes, we need to make different choices.

Here are 3 simple ways to more abundance in your life

1. Purpose

Live out your purpose. When you are living out your purpose you will instantly be more fulfilled, more happy, and more productive. Take inventory of your natural gifts, talents, and abilities and then spend the majority of your time in those areas.

2. Perspective

Renew your mind daily. I can never recall a time in my life where so much negativity is trying to grab peoples attention, but if you really want more abundance then YOU must feed your mind with the right information.

3. Passion

There is no one on earth more energetic, driven, and full of purpose than someone who is passionate. Their energy is contagious and “opportunities” seem to just find them.

So, if you really want to live life and that more abundantly, then isn’t it time you lived out your purpose, with the right perspective, and full of passion?

What to do When Life Throws You a Curve Ball…

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I love personal development and success strategies. I also like what Jim Rohn said, “The greatest investment you will ever make is the investment in yourself” But with all that being said, what do you do when life throws you a curve ball?

It happens to all of us. Life is full of challenges, hurdles, and obstacles. I was reminded of this story recently about a farmer and his donkey. Take a moment to read what happened next…

One day a farmer’s donkey fell into a well. The farmer frantically thought what to do as the stricken animal cried out to be rescued. With no obvious solution, the farmer regretfully concluded that as the donkey was old, and as the well needed to be filled in anyway, he should give up the idea of rescuing the beast, and simply fill in the well. Hopefully the poor animal would not suffer too much, he tried to persuade himself.

The farmer asked his neighbours help, and before long they all began to shovel earth quickly into the well. When the donkey realised what was happening he wailed and struggled, but then, to everyone’s relief, the noise stopped.

After a while the farmer looked down into the well and was astonished by what he saw. The donkey was still alive, and progressing towards the top of the well. The donkey had discovered that by shaking off the dirt instead of letting it cover him, he could keep stepping on top of the earth as the level rose. Soon the donkey was able to step up over the edge of the well, and he happily trotted off.

Life tends to shovel dirt on top of each of us from time to time. The trick is to shake it off and take a step up

5 Questions to Discover Your Purpose for Your Work

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I see countless numbers of people get caught up in the latest technology, newest idea, and hottest concept, only to struggle putting the pieces together and enjoying real success.

The problem lies in the fact that most people have not determined their purpose behind their business.

Think about this…

“If you were created in the image and likeness of God, and God created everything for a purpose, shouldn’t your business and the things you create be created for a purpose?”

If you don’t have purpose, you will begin to chase down all sorts of “opportunities” that lead to more frustration.

So how do you define your purpose in your work? Start by honestly answering these 5 questions…

  1. Who to do you enjoy serving?
  2. Other than money why are you in the business that you are in?
  3. What problems do you enjoy solving?
  4. What do people regularly ask you for advice on?
  5. What does the result of your business do for people?

If you stop to really think about these questions AND give honest answers you will find that you will remain more focused and results driven!

5 Business Lessons from “The Social Network” Movie

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Angie and I went out today to see The Social Network movie about Facebook. I found the movie really good and I would suggest that you go and check it out. As I have had the chance to think about the movie, I have come up with 5 Business Lessons You Can Learn:

  1. Keep your idea simple. Let’s face facts, the idea of Facebook could have been conceived by many people. It is really simple. Give people a way to share their lives with others, connect with people, and communicate. Many people may overlook an idea just because they think it is too simple. Simple is always best.
  2. Your list is everything. You need to spend every day thinking of ways to grow your database. People must know you exist, if you are ever going to have a chance of growing. Keep, Grow, and Guard your list like your business depended on it – because it does!
  3. Your customers are the best way to spread your message. No matter what type of advertising you will or may try, word of mouth has always been and will always be the best form of advertising you will ever have. Spend the time to make sure you focus on getting your message to spread.
  4. Focus on your customers first, the money will follow. Facebook did not make any money at first. In fact, they really didn’t have any idea “how to monetize” Facebook. Their goal was simply to grow the user base, listen to the feedback, and observe how the users were interacting with the site.
  5. Partnerships as ships and ships can sink. Be very careful when it comes to partnerships. I have been involved in several and the reality is that partnerships look great at the start, but they have a strong possibility of going south.

“It only takes ACTING upon one idea to change the world. Don’t wait, take your chance today!”

Are you doing what you are called, designed, and gifted to do? Is your life and business growing each and every day?

The second step in the 7 Steps on How to Go from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be, is that you must capture a vision. You must be able to “see” what your future looks like. A vision needs to be strong enough to motivate you to action. Alone we are trapped with limited vision, but in a group, we can let our vision go to new heights.

Here is How to Awaken a New, Fresh Vision for Your Future

  1. Become a reader
  2. Listen to inspiring CD’s and podcast
  3. Go to Seminars
  4. Listen to speakers, preachers, and teachers
  5. Go to mastermind and networking groups
  6. Find a mentor or coach
  7. Meditate on your vision in a quiet place

But those are not the only steps you need to take. When you hear about an idea, you need to write your idea down right away! I did a post on 4 Keys to Put Your Idea Into Action Fast, that you need to read. Why is it so important to write your idea down immediately? See below…

Habakkuk 2:2

2 Then the LORD replied:
“Write down the revelation
and make it plain on tablets
so that a herald [b] may run with it.

Whenever I get inspired with a vision, I write it down and find the time to take action on it right away. Sometimes, if I am driving, I will use my iPad. You can see a video about saving time and capturing your ideas by clicking here.

What about you? Leave a comment below and let’s talk about vision!

I have the opportunity to meet with and talk to a lot of people who say they want to change their life, business, or situation. What is the process that someone needs to take in order to make changes?

I have been working on the system that I have used to bring about changes I have made in my own life.

  1. You must decide and know the price you are willing to pay
  2. You must capture a vision
  3. You must write your vision down
  4. You must get the necessary resources
  5. You need to get some accountability
  6. You need to persevere through the process
  7. You need to take action daily and track your progress

I am going to elaborate on each of these steps in upcoming post, so be sure to check back often. For now, I would like to hear from you…
