Everyone I meet wants something. They want to make a difference, they want to achieve a goal, they want to make a dream a reality, but whatever it may be, the starting point is in your daily agenda.

The road map to success is built on a street called perseverance and it is traveled only by those people who are dedicated to practicing winning habits each day in their life. I want to share with you what I have learned about winning every day.

  1. Get up when you wake up
  2. Believe that today is your day
  3. Read scripture
  4. Listen to a motivating message
  5. Great your family with a smile and a positive word
  6. Have an agenda that you will accomplish
  7. Send out 3 note cards to people you know
  8. Look for 1 way to give something to someone – a smile or encourage word
  9. Expect favor in your activities
  10. Come home with a positive, supportive and grateful attitude

What will it take to go for your dream?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Every now and then certain people come into your life that you know are heading for big things. They light up a room and bring joy and encouragement to everyone they meet. Denai Vaughn was one of those all to rare bright shining lights in this world. Tragically, she went  to heaven on Monday November 7th as a result of an automobile accident.

Denai came into my life about 5 years ago as I was just entering the world of coaching, speaking and training. We met through a mutal friend on Facebook and over the years I interviewed her on my podcast and she interviewed me on her podcast. She was on of the first people to endorse and review my very first book. I could always count on Denai for an endorsement, introduction, or simply a word of encouragement.

Denai had a real zest for life and helping people connect. She was affectionately known as “The Networking Queen” I can’t tell you how many of my presentations contain references to her branding as an example of how to stand out from the crowd. You knew Denai had entered the room or conversation with every “WHOHOO” she shouted. She was an encourager of people. She loved Jesus, her husband and her little girl. She believed that everyone had enormous potential and she used every form of media to make that fact known.

She made so many connections for others with never asking for help herself. That was her style. The notion that it is truly better to give than receive.

She was in the middle of launching several new ventures including Excellence Worx but on the day she passed away, she had completed what would be her final podcast. The topic…Episode 44: Grief – Loss of a Spouse, Parent, Child(ren)

Unknowingly, this podcast would become her words to us from beyond this life on how to handle the sudden loss of a loved one.

So what do you do when that phone call comes in telling you that your friend has unexpectedly passed away? How do you react? What do you say?

I don’t know that I have all or even any of the answers, but I do know this…

  • Life is short
  • No one is guaranteed tomorrow or even the next breath
  • EVERYONE has a hope, a dream or a goal AND

Right now is the time that you need to start working towards your dream, not tomorrow, not next week, and not when that little voice of excuses tells you that it can’t happen. Now is the time we all put on our big boy or girl pants and get started making the world a better place.

For me, I have the comfort of knowing that Denai is now networking on streets of gold. She has gone ahead of us to make new connections, just like she did while she was with us here. I am sure that when we make it to the gates, we will see Denai and after a loud “WHOHOO” she will begin making introductions, connections, and asking that one question we all need to get better at…

“what can I do for you?”

I bet you never thought I would say these words, especially coming from The Marketing Evangelist. Is it really possible that you can Drink, Swear, Steal, and Lie to get ahead?

After all we see it all the time in the news, don’t we? It would be really easy to assume that by doing these things we really can get ahead in life and after much reflection, I have decided that if we drink, swear, steal, and lie we really can get ahead.

Here’s the way I see it…

What to do When Life Throws You a Curve Ball…

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I love personal development and success strategies. I also like what Jim Rohn said, “The greatest investment you will ever make is the investment in yourself” But with all that being said, what do you do when life throws you a curve ball?

It happens to all of us. Life is full of challenges, hurdles, and obstacles. I was reminded of this story recently about a farmer and his donkey. Take a moment to read what happened next…

One day a farmer’s donkey fell into a well. The farmer frantically thought what to do as the stricken animal cried out to be rescued. With no obvious solution, the farmer regretfully concluded that as the donkey was old, and as the well needed to be filled in anyway, he should give up the idea of rescuing the beast, and simply fill in the well. Hopefully the poor animal would not suffer too much, he tried to persuade himself.

The farmer asked his neighbours help, and before long they all began to shovel earth quickly into the well. When the donkey realised what was happening he wailed and struggled, but then, to everyone’s relief, the noise stopped.

After a while the farmer looked down into the well and was astonished by what he saw. The donkey was still alive, and progressing towards the top of the well. The donkey had discovered that by shaking off the dirt instead of letting it cover him, he could keep stepping on top of the earth as the level rose. Soon the donkey was able to step up over the edge of the well, and he happily trotted off.

Life tends to shovel dirt on top of each of us from time to time. The trick is to shake it off and take a step up

10 Lessons on Life

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

The woodpecker might have to go!

10 Lessons I learned from Noah’s Ark

  1. Don’t miss the boat.
  2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.
  3. Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
  4. Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
  5. Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
  6. Build your future on high ground.
  7. For safety sake, travel in pairs.
  8. Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
  9. When you’re stressed, float awhile.
  10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

5 Things Social Networking Will Never Replace

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

I love the new world of social networking as much as anyone. I Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.

However as I look around this new world of communication, I have noticed 5 things that social networking will never be able to replace. Here they are…

  1. Social networking will never replace human touch.
  2. Social networking will never replace a phone call to a new or old friend.
  3. Social networking will never replace having lunch with friends.
  4. Social networking will never replace visiting your family or friends in person.
  5. Social networking will never replace true connecting conversations.

Social networking has its place in our world. It is a way to reach new people, engage in on-line conversations, share ideas, and so much more…

But the fact remains that we are built for relationships. We are here to connect, serve and be around people.

So try reaching out, having a conversation, and personally interacting with people this week and let me know how that goes for you!

Are you doing what you are called, designed, and gifted to do? Is your life and business growing each and every day?

The second step in the 7 Steps on How to Go from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be, is that you must capture a vision. You must be able to “see” what your future looks like. A vision needs to be strong enough to motivate you to action. Alone we are trapped with limited vision, but in a group, we can let our vision go to new heights.

Here is How to Awaken a New, Fresh Vision for Your Future

  1. Become a reader
  2. Listen to inspiring CD’s and podcast
  3. Go to Seminars
  4. Listen to speakers, preachers, and teachers
  5. Go to mastermind and networking groups
  6. Find a mentor or coach
  7. Meditate on your vision in a quiet place

But those are not the only steps you need to take. When you hear about an idea, you need to write your idea down right away! I did a post on 4 Keys to Put Your Idea Into Action Fast, that you need to read. Why is it so important to write your idea down immediately? See below…

Habakkuk 2:2

2 Then the LORD replied:
“Write down the revelation
and make it plain on tablets
so that a herald [b] may run with it.

Whenever I get inspired with a vision, I write it down and find the time to take action on it right away. Sometimes, if I am driving, I will use my iPad. You can see a video about saving time and capturing your ideas by clicking here.

What about you? Leave a comment below and let’s talk about vision!

3 Conversations You Should Eavsedrop on and Interrupt

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Have you ever wondered whether or not you should but into a conversation? Is it rude? Should you even be eavesdropping in the first place?

There are actually several conversations you should immediately interrupt and but into. I have put together a short list of conversations that interrupting is not only advised, but it is necessary. Here they are:

  1. The conversation in your mind that creates doubt
  2. The conversation in your mind that creates fear
  3. The conversations you have that are not based on fact and truth

Anytime you find yourself having negative self talk, then you must interrupt that conversation, but in, and voice your opinion. I like to think of it as a board room in which you are the CEO. You have the last word, and make sure that word is positive.
